Is Your Water Tank Corroding, Leaking or Failing Inspection?

Over time, internal tank surfaces deteriorate. Galvanised coatings fail, steel begins to corrode, concrete becomes porous and GRP tanks can suffer from joint failures and surface breakdown.
Common issues include:

Internal corrosion and rust contamination
Flaking galvanised coatings
Leaks at joints and panel seams
Hygiene concerns and water quality risks
Failed inspections or compliance issues
Expensive tank replacement quotations
In many cases, full tank replacement is not necessary. A professionally installed GRP lining system can restore and protect the structure for many years.

What Is GRP Tank Lining?

GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) tank lining is a process where a reinforced fibreglass laminate system is applied to the internal surfaces of an existing tank.

This creates a seamless, watertight barrier — effectively forming a “tank within a tank”.

The system:

Protects against corrosion
Seals joints and seams
Restores water tightness
Extends tank life by 10–20+ years
Reduces the need for costly replacement
Reduces chance of legionnaires disease

GRP lining is commonly used for commercial potable water storage tanks, fire water tanks and industrial storage systems.

Our Commercial Tank Lining Process

Every project follows a structured and controlled installation process to ensure long-term performance, safety and compliance.

Step 1 – Detailed Site Survey & Assessment

Before any work begins, we carry out a thorough inspection of the tank structure, internal condition, access constraints and surrounding plant systems.

We assess:
Corrosion severity
Structural integrity
Access and confined space considerations
Water system isolation requirements

Step 2 – Isolation & Controlled Drain Down

The tank is safely isolated from the water supply and fully drained in accordance with site procedures.

Where required, we coordinate with facilities management teams to minimise operational disruption.

Step 3 – Mechanical Surface Preparation

All internal surfaces are mechanically prepared to remove:

Failed coatings
Loose galvanising
Corrosion
Contamination

Proper preparation is critical to long-term adhesion and system performance.

Step 4 – Corrosion Treatment & Substrate Preparation

Exposed areas are treated prior to lamination to stabilise and protect the substrate.

Any structural defects identified are addressed before installation proceeds.

Step 5 – GRP Laminate Installation

A reinforced glass fibre laminate system is applied to all internal surfaces.

This forms a seamless, fully bonded internal barrier — effectively creating a “tank within a tank”.

Step 6 – Protective Topcoat Application

A specialist topcoat is applied to provide:

A smooth hygienic finish
Enhanced durability
Long-term resistance to moisture and corrosion
chemical resistance

Step 7 – Inspection, Curing & Recommissioning

Once fully cured, the lining is inspected before the tank is returned to service.

Where required, documentation and completion records are provided.

We provide RAMS and relevant documentation for commercial projects. All works are carried out with appropriate insurance and site safety procedures.
